Junior Bowling Here on Long Island, we have many activities for our kids to participate in. One of them is BOWLING. The most participated sport on the planet and one of the healthiest too. Any child can take part from the smaller of the bunch to the tallest in the class. Even a child in a wheel chair or walker. A child doesn't have to be an "Athlete" either, just enthusiastic. Your typical junior league, bumper league, or a local community league and of course the PAL leagues, all have people incold who are concered and care about our kids. Junior bowling on Long Island has been a major activitiy for many youngsters for generations. Introductory ages from 5 to 11 and at a more competitive level from ages 12 and up have enjoyed programs available everyday of the week at local centers. We are fortunate to have organizations that make available, manage and govern our sport like the L.I.J.B.A. and L.I.B.Y.T. who have people involved to insure the sport of bowling buy mostly keep our kids involved in a healthy and family oriented sport. These are our organizations that keep the sport of bowling for our kids organized and rewarding. These people who mostly give their time and energy to make sure the kids have something to do and create an educational environment for learning, team work and settting individual goals. On Long Island, Junior Bowling has history and tradition as does other sports. For the past 12 years, the non-profit junior bowling tournament organization called the Long Island Youth Bowling Tour (L.I.Y.B.T.) was started by people who wanted to have a safe and rewarding environment for kids who are competitive about bowling and can earn scholarship money for college. People like Sandy Pape, Vito Genova Se. and the late Bob McDermott dedicated more than their share of time, energy, expertise and love for sport but even more important created it for the kids. Over the years, the organization has handed out thousands of scholarship money to kids who went to colleges that continued their education and also their bowling careers. The junior bowlers involved have a number of reasons for participating in these tournaments. One is the love of the sport, second is the chance to earn money for college and last using it as a stepping stone for future endeavors in the bowling world rate it be a college team or the PBA tour. L.I.B.Y.T. has been a great asset to Long Island junior bowling for many years. To the future of the sport organizations like L.I.B.Y.T. should be supported and praised for the dedication it has to our kids and what it represents. Get the kids involved and join a junior league.
